Anyone familiar with Dorset Patchworks will know that I love working with pre-cut fabric, that is fabric that is already pre-cut by the manufacturer.
I was particularly excited when I took delivery of a new line from Robert Kaufman called Make It Simpler and set myself a challenge to see what I could make using the whole pack. So far I have made a pair of double oven gloves and this is the first baby quilt I've made using just a few of the strips from the bundle. As the colours are so strong I wanted the colours to be the main feature so I decided not to do anything too fancy and keep the quilt simple yet stylish.
I made the quilt on a domestic machine and between the layers is a layer of 100% cotton wadding. I machine quilted along the seam lines (using the 'stitch in the ditch' technique) and then hand quilted the panels using a variety of coloured thread.
This small baby quilt could also be used as a practical play mat. The quilt is machine washable on a gentle setting.
The approximate measurements of the quilt are: W36.5" x L41.5" or W92.5 cms x L105.5 cms.
Make It Simpler fabric in pre-cut bundles is also available in Ten Squares (layer cake) and in Charm Rolls.
