Pair of Improv Quilted Place Mats (Blues and Purples)

For this pair of heat-resistant quilted place mats I decided on an improvised abstract layout so each mat is different yet co-ordinated.

Each mat has a layer of heat-resistant insulating material and a layer of 100% cotton wadding.   The approximate measurement of these place mats is 14¼" x 12¾" or 36 cms x 32.5 cms. 

I used a domestic sewing machine and quilted the centre of the mats in narrow horizontal lines and quilted around the borders.  I finished the mats off by hand.

The place mats are machine washable.  As the fabric and wadding have not been pre-washed there will be a minimal amount of shrinkage.
