For this heat-resistant quilted place mat I decided on an improvised abstract layout.

The place mat has a layer of heat-resistant insulating material and a layer of 100% cotton wadding.   The approximate measurement of this place mat is 14½" x 13" or 37 cms x 33 cms. 

I used a domestic sewing machine and quilted the mat in gentle lines and then finished the mat off by hand.

The place mat is machine washable.  As the fabric and wadding has not been pre-washed there will be a minimal amount of shrinkage.
