This small clutch bag has been hand sewn with Sashiko thread in the Japanese Boro style. The button fastening was made using Sashiko thread. In keeping with the Boro style the patches have raw edges.
Boro was originally a method of repairing or reworking textiles, often by piecing, patching and stitching and it was a way of prolonging the life of a garment. The patches would be stitched with Sashiko running stitches often in cream thread. Today Boro and Sashiko are often regarded as an art form.
The bag measures approximately W8" x H5" or W20 cms x H13 cms.
