Boro Inspired Clutch Bag with Zippered Pocket(8)

For this clutch the main section has been hand sewn with Sashiko thread in the Japanese Boro style.  The fabric is linen with a cotton lining.  I used a sewing machine to construct the bag.  There are two pockets, one with a zipper.  The button fastening was made by hand using Sashiko thread.  In keeping with the Boro style the patches have raw edges.

Boro was originally a method of repairing or reworking textiles, often by piecing, patching and stitching and it was a way of prolonging the life of a garment.  The patches would be stitched with Sashiko running stitches often in cream thread.  Today Boro and Sashiko are often regarded as an art form.

The bag measures approximately W11¼" x H7" or W28.5 cms x H18 cms.
