Boro Inspired Clutch Bag with Zippered Pocket(10)

For this clutch the main section has been hand sewn with Sashiko thread in the Japanese Boro style.  I used a sewing machine to construct the bag.  There are two pockets, one with a zipper.  The clutch bag is lined with black fabric and the zipper is bright blue.   The button fastening was made by hand using Sashiko thread.  In keeping with the Boro style the patches have raw edges.

Boro was originally a method of repairing or reworking textiles, often by piecing, patching and stitching and it was a way of prolonging the life of a garment.  The patches would be stitched with Sashiko running stitches often in cream thread.  Today Boro and Sashiko are often regarded as an art form.

The bag measures approximately W9¼" x H7" or W23.5 cms x H18 cms.
